Explain how much
When you want to explain the degree of something in English, you use adverbs like these:
She's very sick. I'm a little sleepy. Those are common adverbs which you probably already know. What about these?
a tad bit
somewhat
slightly
a little
kind of
fairly
pretty
quite
rather
very
extremely
completely
absolutely
utterly
This list is roughly ordered from least to greatest. Here's a tip for committing them to memory: think of an example of something from your own life which is "slightly" something, something that is "rather" something else, and so on. For example:
My rent is somewhat high.
I'm slightly shorter than my brother.
Jennifer Lopez is quite beautiful.
The important thing is to make sure that these are true statements from your own life. They'll be easier to remember that way. (Year Of English)
