Put Your Foot Down


This is a great phrase in spoken English to learn both about language and culture.  If someone says, “I’m going to have to put my foot down…” they are basically saying that they are going to make the final decision about something, even when other people don’t agree.

A Lot On His Plate


If someone has “A lot on their plate“, it means that they have of stuff they need to do. They are very busy. Someone could say, “I’d love to go for a holiday somewhere with you     but I’ll have to wait until the new year because I have too much on my plate right now at work”.

Amazing Phrase


You Can Dish It But You Can’t Take It! This is an awesome phrase in spoken English.If someone can dish it it means that they often say

AAMOF, BBL, CID, DIY, etc.


AAMOF = as a matter of fact
AND = any day now
AFAIK = as far as I know
AFK = away from keyboard
AKA = also known as
ATSL = along the same line

I was tossing and turning all night

You and your friend are on vacation together. You're in a hotel room, and the bed was uncomfortable. Your friend asks how you slept, so you answer. "I was tossing and turning all night"
