Coffee in outer space

(Year Of English)

When someone explains a complex topic like science, economics, etc., they use a mix of common words and more specialized terms. The writer or speaker may not expect for the audience to understand some of the specialized vocabulary. As an English learner, you might
have trouble with both the general words and the specialized ones. But it's good to know which ones are which.
In the video about how coffee moves in outer space where there's low gravity, here are some terms that some English speakers don't know:
  • microgravity
  • cryogenic fluids
  • thermal coolants
  • potable water
  • capillary flow
  • capillary effect
  • microgravity condensing heat exchanger
  • multiphase fluids
And here are some terms that might be new to you, but that most native English speakers would understand:
  • gravity - the force that pulls objects together, like pulling us toward the earth
  • physics - the study of basic natural forces
  • fluids - liquids
  • interior - inside
  • dampen - reduce the intensity of something
  • patents - legal documents which prove that a person invented something
  • channel - the area that a liquid flows through
