How to THINK in English EASILY!

Here are some great tips to help students THINK in English! To help students begin thinking in English naturally, start small! Because thinking in a different language is NOT natural, students must train their brains to do it initially.First, have students begin to think in English by naming as many things in their environment as they can IN ENGLISH, in their head, when they see them. They can do this ANYWHERE and at ANY TIME, so get them started TODAY! If they see a cup, they should THINK CUP. If they see a dog, they should THINK DOG. Have them focus on speed! The object of this perpetual exercise is to have their brains immediately think of the English word for something as soon as they see it. Do this and they will improve your brain's ability to think in English the same way they learn to speak in English. Students should take time to do this every day! After single words, because the brain also needs practice thinking about groups of words like a series of numbers, have students focus on numbers and counting. As an example, when students go to the grocery store, they can count the items they buy AND can count the money they pay with IN ENGLISH! If they do this a lot, it will become easier for them to start making more full sentences in their heads.Next, teach students English words that are not found in their own language. As an example, a foreigner living in Japan learns many new words that don't have direct translations in English. Words for food, activities and other special items, like tenpura, karate and tatami, are all words that must be learned IN JAPANESE, so learning them helps their brain to think better in Japanese. Finally, help students train their brains to react to situations in English! They will know that they're thinking in English when they make a mistake and say "oops!" So students begin reacting to situations in English, have them stop and think every time something surprising happens to them. It will take time at first, but encourage students to stop, think and say something in English that they think is appropriate for a situation. Over time, their brains will begin to react faster in English and they will notice themselves thinking more in English! If they continue to challenge themselves to think more in English, they will soon be dreaming in English as well!
