Hypocrite

This is really an amazing word in spoken English.  When you say the word, the sound is like “Hipp 0h krit”

Anyway, a “hypocrite” is a person who tells someone never to do something but then they do it themselves.  It’s a terrible quality.

For example, if a father tells his son to never smoke, but he’s a smoker, then the father is ahypocrite.

If a person who never tells the truth gives you advice to be honest, they are a hypocrite.

If a guy who cheats on his girlfriend says you are a bad person because you cheated on your girlfriend, he is a hypocrite.

You’ve probably seen a million examples of people being hypocrites.  Now you know the word in English and you absolutely should make sure you use it the next chance you get!  Native speakers will be impressed if you use this word properly.

** If you tell other people they should improve their English but you are too lazy to study, then you are a hypocrite too!   Keep improving your English and your whole life will be better in more ways than you can imagine.
