One way to think about English is to consider word patterns.
Given a certain word, what other words are likely to follow? If you know this, you can start to anticipate (guess) what someone is going to say next, before they say it.
For example, here are some of the most common patterns using the word "take":
- take place (Year Of English)
- take care of __
- take a look
- take a step
- take advantage of __
- take a risk
- take a picture
- take a break
- take responsibility for __
- take away __
- take a deep breath
- take off (clothes)
- (an airplane) takes off
- take (something) out of your pocket
- take out the garbage
- take out a loan
- take on a role
- take on a challenge
- take up space
- take up arms
