February is Library Lovers Month, so this week, we'll ponder e-books (most libraries offer them now) and whether the word e-book needs a hyphen.
E-book stands for "electronic book," the same way e-reader stands for "electronic reader" and e-mail stands for "electronic mail."
The Associated Press and The Chicago Manual of Style both recommend hyphenating e-book. It's conceivable, however, that over time, e-book may lose its hyphen. The Associated Press has already bowed to common usage and now recommends email without the hyphen.
