You're talking with your mom
about your brother's job interview yesterday. You point out that he has
excellent qualifications, a good personality, and many other attributes that
should help him get the position.
He's got a lot going for him.
(someone) has a lot going for (him/her)
The phrase "____ has a lot going for (him/her)" means that
someone has a lot of good qualities and advantages. You would use this phrase
to talk about someone who is:
- smart
- funny
- talented
- a hard worker
...or other
positive characteristics.
We often use this phrase to talk about someone who's having some trouble.
For example, if your cousin can't find a girlfriend or boyfriend, you can say
this:
I don't get
why he hasn't found anyone yet. He's got a lot going for him.
